How Fort Lauderdale Arrests Work
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department handles municipal policing in Broward County’s largest city and county seat. The city’s July 1, 2025 population estimate was 188,677. Yet FLPD does not run a separate adult jail. An adult arrested by FLPD enters the Broward Sheriff’s Office system at Main Jail/Central Intake, the countywide booking point for every Broward law-enforcement agency. That transfer explains why a Fort Lauderdale arrest can create records in more than one official system.
FLPD holds the city incident and arrest-report side. BSO holds the jail booking, current custody, and booking photograph created at intake. Central Intake receives property, performs a medical check, takes fingerprints and a booking photo, and checks warrants. Processing time can vary with booking volume and database access. A person may leave from intake or be classified and moved to another BSO detention facility.
These records describe different stages. An arrest report concerns what FLPD says led to the arrest. A booking record documents entry into county detention. Neither proves guilt. A charge can be reduced or dismissed, and the Broward Clerk court case supplies the disposition, meaning the court’s final result.
Fort Lauderdale Busted Mugshot Sources
Official sources should be checked in the order that matches the event. FLPD’s Police-to-Citizen system can locate city arrest information, but its public materials do not state a fixed update cycle, date window, or booking-photo rule. BSO Arrest Search answers whether a person is in a Broward jail now. The Booking Blotter answers whether the person was processed on a recent chosen date, even when release occurred after intake.
| Channel | Photo? | Status | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| FLPD Police-to-Citizen | Not promised | Official city source | Search Fort Lauderdale arrests and traffic accidents |
| BSO Arrest Search | Yes, on detail | Official county source | Check current BSO custody and facility |
| BSO Booking Blotter | Not advertised | Official county source | Find recent processing in two-day queries |
| BSO Breaking News | Sometimes | Official selective releases | Read major case and arrest announcements |
| WSVN Broward and NBC 6 | Story dependent | Editorial | Follow selected Fort Lauderdale crime reports |
| Broward aggregator pages | Commonly | Unofficial | Use only as a lead, then verify with BSO and the Clerk |
The five county-level secondary sources documented for Broward are Busted Newspaper, Recently Booked, Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone. They can be delayed, duplicated, stale, or wrong, and none is a Fort Lauderdale government source. Their publisher claims about update frequency are not BSO guarantees. Official custody, booking, and court systems should settle identity, status, and outcome.
Note: A released person may leave current Arrest Search while still appearing later in the lagged Booking Blotter.
Busted in Fort Lauderdale Lookup
Timing matters here. The BSO Arrest Search refreshes every 15 minutes. It also refuses to run without a last name. Add a first name if you want fewer hits. Each entry lists an arrest number, the person's name, sex, and the facility holding them. Click the arrest number to reach a session-bound detail page. That page is where the booking photo appears. Here's the catch: it has no permanent public address, so a bookmark from one session is useless. Just return through the main search every time.
- Search FLPD Police-to-Citizen for the city arrest event. Treat it as a search interface, not a complete daily blotter.
- Check BSO Arrest Search by last name for present jail custody. Add the first name to narrow common results.
- If the person is absent, query the BSO Booking Blotter. Each search can cover no more than two days, and BSO states that data can lag 24 hours.
- Request the city incident or arrest report from FLPD Records. Request the jail booking record or photograph from BSO when the needed item was created at Central Intake.
- Use the Broward Clerk case search to follow filed charges and the disposition. Intake charges are not always the charges later filed by prosecutors.
Don't hunt for a 24-hour page or a 72-hour feed. Neither one is verified for this city. No weekly arrest feed exists either. If the arrest date is unclear, run two-day blotter searches across back-to-back windows until the name surfaces. For a wider view of the county-wide roster and how its feeds work, see the Broward County busted mugshots search.
Fort Lauderdale Police Arrest Records
FLPD gives you several ways in. Use the online portal, email PublicRecords@flpd.gov, call, mail a letter, or walk in. Say exactly what you want, such as an incident report tied to a case number and date. Probable-cause material goes to the arrested person right away, per the department. One wrinkle remains, though. An arrest-related incident report must be filed with the State Attorney before release, so the FLPD report and the BSO booking record can land on very different timelines.
Fees are small but they stack. The FLPD public-records request page lists $0.15 per single-sided page and $1 per certified copy. Redaction or heavy digging can trigger labor charges. Photos, audio, and video each carry their own duplication costs. No completion deadline is guaranteed. Keep the request narrow, and ask for an estimate if the job looks big.

Check the address before you go. FLPD has left its temporary Kaplan building, and an official city update marked the relocation complete before March 31, 2026. Any directory still pointing to the old spot is probably stale. Was the booking photo taken after the person moved to county intake? Then BSO Records holds it, not FLPD.
Note: The agency that made the arrest and the agency holding the booking photograph may not be the same.
Fort Lauderdale Historical Arrest Dataset
There is an older source worth knowing. Fort Lauderdale publishes an open-data Arrests dataset spanning 2015 through 2022, with its final update on August 17, 2023. Think of it as a research archive. It will not show anyone booked yesterday. The file carries 43 columns, covering case numbers, charges, arrest dates and times, coded demographic fields, locations, and whether the person was fingerprinted, photographed, or both. The official FLPD historical arrests dataset shows how the city formats these older entries.
The dataset is solid for what it covers. It stops at 2022. So it cannot answer current questions. Was someone booked last week? Are they still in custody? Is there a fresh booking photo? None of that lives here. For those answers, use BSO Arrest Search, the recent Booking Blotter, or a direct records request to the agency holding the file.
- Arrest record
- The city record of an arrest event and its reported basis.
- Booking
- The county intake process that creates jail identity, custody, fingerprint, and photograph records.
- Disposition
- The court result, which may differ from the charge recorded at arrest or intake.
Fort Lauderdale Busted News Coverage
Fort Lauderdale arrest news never lands in one place. WSVN runs a Broward feed that folds city cases in, sometimes with police-supplied suspect or booking images. NBC 6 covers South Florida public safety and mixes Broward with Miami-Dade stories. BSO Breaking News posts official event-driven releases. Now and then one includes a suspect photo or an agency case number. None of it adds up to a full Fort Lauderdale arrest log.
Regional reports move fast, and each story carries its own source and scope. Before trusting an image, figure out where it came from. Was it FLPD, BSO, surveillance footage, or something else? Then pull the official record. Broward's Talk Media crime streams center on Coral Springs, Tamarac, Margate, and Coconut Creek, so they are not a city arrest feed. For the county's wider outlets and the story-to-record method, see Broward County Arrest News.
Aggregators sometimes tag an arrest by city or by arresting agency. Treat those as secondary even when a page looks fresh. Match the person in BSO or FLPD records first. Then follow the Broward Clerk to see how the case resolved.
Fort Lauderdale Booking to Court
A Fort Lauderdale arrest passes through several systems. Each one answers a different question. FLPD documents the city event. Central Intake creates the county booking. BSO Arrest Search shows current custody, while the blotter logs recent processing after its stated lag. The Broward Clerk tracks prosecutor filings and the court's final outcome. Keep these sources separate. Blending them into one conclusion leads people astray, because each system only knows its own piece of the story.
| Custody stage | Best official source | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| City arrest reported | FLPD P2C or FLPD Records | Arrest event, report, or probable-cause material when releasable |
| Just processed | BSO Booking Blotter | Recent county intake, subject to a 24-hour lag and two-day search limit |
| In BSO custody now | BSO Arrest Search | JMS number, identity, location, and photo detail |
| Released | Blotter, records request, and Clerk | The booking may persist even after the current roster entry drops |
| Case outcome | Broward Clerk | Filed counts, hearings, and disposition |
A prison sentence changes the picture. Once someone moves into the Florida state system, the ordinary county-booking search dead-ends, and the Florida Department Corrections offender search takes over. Depending on the database you pick, it covers state-prison records, supervision, release, absconder, and escape information. Even so, it cannot substitute for a fresh Fort Lauderdale or Broward jail search.
One more local wrinkle. Fort Lauderdale dropped SaferWatch on January 1, 2025, moving non-police service reporting to FixIt FTL. That swap built no jail-record app, and BSO's booking channels stayed as they were. No verified BSO mobile roster app exists. Use the official web searches for jail data, and VINE for eligible custody-change notifications.
